Key West Vacation Special

 Key West Vacation Special are words everyone likes to hear.. and may not expect at this island resort in that everything has to be transported over 100 miles of road and bridges to get there! This is truly a location few people know anything factually about because so few have been there. There's so many impressions from movies, but in terms of actual news photos or other exposure, so few Americans have been there, theres not much to reference.

 Yet a key west resort vacation can be like no other experience in any of the East Coast Vacations, unless you choose to stay in one of the name hotels.. and in that case a key west resort hotel is about like any other major island resort hotel. One might say, "Once in a Hilton, they are all about the same" and that's not a negative. People expect a degree of service and quality standardization and we could change Hilton to Mariott or any other name and the the facts would be the same. We all know the quality and about the price range, so a key question is: Is there such a thing as a  cheap key west vacation and I guess the answer depends upon your concept of "cheap". The answer is that yes, there are modestly available accomodations and value priced meals. Key west has many quaint old homes converted into keywest bed and breakfasts, and you  can stay there for far less money than a luxury hotel. You can have a key west resort vacation for about the same money as one in Disney or Cape Cod if you shop and are flexible in your time and possibly willing to take or use a key west package vacation deal. If you can't spend an entire week (or don't want to) a  nightly key west vacation rental can be arranged... just schedule and reserve ahead.

You can do  day trips from the mainland to Key West if you wish, and if partying is not your only objective, visit Marathon.

The Key West Area is Dolphin Paradise

Marathon is home to Crane Point Hammock, a 63.5 acre land tract that is one of the most important historical and archaeological sites in the Keys. Remember, there's more than just the one island of Key West.. It's just that it's the best publicized.  The  Marathon area contains evidence of pre-Colombian and prehistoric Bahamian artifacts, and once was the site of an entire Indian village. Here at this site is the Museum of Natural History of the Florida Keys and an adjacent children's museum.

Located at mile marker 59 in Marathon, The Dolphin Research Center (DRC) is a non-profit education and research facility that sustains a pod  (dolphin family) averaging about 15 dolphins in a natural marine environment. Many of the dolphins were born at the facility, the remainder came from other facilities or were taken from the wild by other management many years ago.

In existence for more than 30 years, DRC maintains liaisons with university research programs and independent investigators on an international basis. It has developed a worldwide reputation as an organization committed to increasing public awareness about dolphins and the issues that affect them

What do you do when you are there? Depends on who you are and what you  want to do! Key West is well known as a Party Town and most bars don't close until 4AM. Hope you had made your sleeping accomodations before you stagger out, because it's hard to find something "on the spot" at this hour. And better to hail a friendly cabby.. he might know where you can go. Expect someone is going to tip him well for the service though, and you won't necessarily get taken to the cheap hotels in KeyWest!

Of course.. water is king. After all you are on an island, and when you are surrounded by water, what do you do? Swim, boat, fish, scuba dive, waterski. All the water sports are available and you can find scuba rentals in key west everywhere, and this includes key west scuba instruction. Be sure and plan ahead and bring your underwater camera!

And history...  Does the word "Hemmingway" mean anything to you?  If not right now, read up on him before you go!  You can "party" any where (just not in this climate) but you can't be exposed to that kind of history, so while you are there, you might as well take advantage of it.
